A Day at the Oregon Zoo

One of the things that Lewis and I always do when we move to a new city is cover all the bases: Museums, gardens, zoo, etc. Now, you might remember my post on the Houston Zoo which was pretty impressive, so my expectations were set pretty high!

Oregon is just naturally enchanting, so they didn't really have to put much effort into landscaping. It looked like they just put some fences up and plopped some animals right on top of a mountain which is totally alright with me.The zoo was actually quite massive and is divided into six sections: Pacific Shores, Africa, Elephant Lands, Primate Lands, Discovery, and Great Northwest. It took us a solid three hours to walk through so that gives you a pretty good idea just how expansive it is!

My personal favorite enclosure by far was the Elephant Lands, I have never seen such a large elephant habitat! We also caught the elephant feeding which was amazing because you got to see them up close and the employees answered any questions you had, plus were willing to take cell phone selfies with the elephant family!

My second favorite exhibit was the Great Northwest (shocking I know). You had an above-ground view of most of the habitats so there was no bars or glass separating you from the animals which was really unique.

We will definitely be making a return trip next month to catch the Christmas Lights!
