Brunch at Brasil

We finally ventured out on our first brunch adventure since we've been in Houston. Ever since we left Jax I have been looking for a Cool Moose replacement to fill my omelet and coffee void. We made the mistake of getting there around 12 which is prime time so we had to stand in line to order for over 30 min. luckily there are plenty of seats in the house so finding a table wasn't an issue.

The atmosphere was very welcoming, despite the crowd the noise level was pretty low. The menu is diverse offering all the breakfast staples with a Tex Mex twist and everything from upscale burgers, salads, and pizza for the dinner menu. Up front you'll also notice a variety of scones which I regret not trying (they had an apple scone that was calling my name).

I ordered the spinach, tomato, and feta omelet with fruit cup, hash browns and toast. It's funny how something as simple as an omelet can either be done really well or pretty terrible, this one happened to be delicious! The eggs were light and fluffy and the spinach was fresh and seasoned well. I also really enjoyed a the fruit cup and the iced coffee is a must!

Lewis ordered the Tamale Breakfast which was served with two eggs, black beans and salsa with guajillo sauce and your choice of two tamales (in this case it was butternut squash/pablano and regular corn with pork). Despite the colorful appearance of the plate it was lacking in the flavor department. I was expecting the sauce to be slightly spicy but it didn't have much taste to be honest. We also both agreed that the tamales could have used more filling.

The Verdict

Brasil provides an enjoyable atmosphere, ideal for sitting on the patio sipping an iced coffee in the summer time. The menu provides all your breakfast/brunch staples with some unique items thrown in. The prices are a little on the high side but it is worth it for the quality and quantity you receive.
